“Privacy-first” is one of our six studio principles. It’s an easy phrase to put on a website, so here’s what it actually means in practice, starting with the site you’re reading.
No analytics, no cookies
This site doesn’t run any analytics or tracking scripts. There’s no Google Analytics, no Meta pixel, no session recording and no “anonymous” visitor counter. We don’t set cookies, so there’s no cookie banner to click through.
Cloudflare, which hosts the site, handles the technical data any web host needs to deliver pages and protect them from attacks. That’s it.
Does that mean we don’t really know how many people visit? Mostly, yes. We’ve decided we can live with that.
Fonts that don’t phone home
Most websites load their fonts from Google, which means every visit quietly tells Google’s servers which page you opened. Ours used to as well. Our fonts (Space Grotesk and Inter, both open source) are now served from our own site, so loading a page doesn’t send anything to Google or any other font provider.
The contact form only exists so we can reply
If you write to us, your name, email and message go to Formspree, a form service, which forwards them to our inbox. We use them to reply and for nothing else. We don’t add you to anything, and we don’t sell or share your details.
Spam is caught by a hidden field that only bots fill in, so we don’t need a CAPTCHA that tracks you either.
Locked down by default
The site tells your browser exactly which services it’s allowed to talk to: our own site, and Formspree when you send a message. Anything else is blocked, even if something went wrong on our side. It’s a small technical safety net (a “Content Security Policy”, if you’re curious) that plenty of much bigger sites don’t bother with.
The same rules for what we ship
Our own products are built with the same instinct: collect only what the product needs to work, and be plain about it. Each one will launch with a privacy policy written in the same plain English as ours.
If anything here doesn’t match what you see, tell us. Mabel takes these things very seriously. Mostly.
